WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - Kyle Wilson had 19 points and Sean Ogirri added 17 as Wichita State held off Providence 82-74 on Wednesday night.

Ogirri had 13 of his points in the second half, including a pair of 3-pointers that ignited a 10-2 run. His second 3-pointer gave the Shockers a 61-55 lead they would not relinquish.

Karon Bradley had three steals during a 14-2 run as Wichita State (5-1) built a 19-7 first-half lead. But Providence's DeSean White hit four 3-pointers - three in a 45-second span - to help the Friars tie the game at 37 with just under 3 minutes left in the half.

White, who finished with 12 points, was playing in his first game of the season after recovering from a broken foot.

Wichita State held a 41-37 lead at the break, then extended that to 47-37 in the second half before Providence (3-1) went on a 9-0 run to close to within 1.

Herbert Hill led the Friars with 22 points, Donnie McGrath had 15 and Weyinmi Efejuku added 13.

Paul Miller scored 15 points and had eight rebounds for the Shockers, while P.J. Cousinard scored 10.

Free-throw shooting proved to be the difference, with the Shockers hitting 18 to only four for Providence.
