BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Sophomore center Randall Hanke scored 20 points on 9-of-10 shooting as Providence College (3-0), which trailed by six points in the second half, rallied for an 81-78 victory over Fairfield University Monday night in the Arena at Harbor Yard.

Fairfield led by six, two times in the second half, most recently with a 51-45 advantage at the 13:16 mark. PC would not be denied though as it scored 13 consecutive points including eight in less than 15 seconds, to post a 58-51 lead, at the 11:48 mark. A conventional three-point play by junior Herbert Hill (Kinston, N.C.), along with a three-pointer by McGrath accounted for the last two PC buckets of the spurt. Later, Sharaud Curry hit a deep 3-pointer with the shot clock winding down to give Providence a 72-64 lead with 3:32 to play.

Fairfield had a chance to tie with 1:40 left, but an open 3-pointer by Terrence Todd missed.

A Hanke dunk and Curry layup in the final 1:12 put the game away for Providence.

Geoff McDermott added a career-high 15 points and nine rebounds for Providence.

The Stags (0-3) were led by junior transfer Danny Oglesby (Hamden, Conn.) who had a career-high 24 points including 14 in the first half. In addition, Fairfield senior Terrence Todd (Neptune, N.J.) totaled a season-high 14 points as the Stags had four players in double figures. As a team, Fairfield hit 11 three-pointers.

Providence, which committed 21 turnovers, out-rebounded Fairfield 37-25. The Friars also trailed 51-45 with 13:16 to play, but responded with a 13-0 run. Six PC players tallied eight points or more.
