JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by Saint Peter's College, 54-46, on Saturday, November 26 at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, N.J. PC freshman Ashley Etheridge (Portland, Conn.) led the Friars with 11 points, while three Peahens reached double figures for Saint Peter's. Tiffany Jones scored a game-high 16 points.

In the first half, the Friars pushed out to a 7-0 lead before Saint Peter's scored its first basket with 12:14 remaining on the clock to make the score 7-2. Providence never relinquished it's lead in the first half and went to the locker room at the break with a 24-21 lead. Etheridge led the Friars in the first 20 minutes with 10 points. Jones led Saint Peter's in the half with nine points.

In the second half, Providence led by as many as 10 points (35-25) with 14:35 remaining in the game. At the 11:19 mark, fifth-year senior Gayle Nwafili (Maplewood, N.J.) hit a lay-up to keep the Friars ahead by eight points (39-31). From that point, the Friars were held scoreless for over a five-minute stretch as Saint Peter's went on a 14-0 run to take a 45-39 lead.

Providence closed the gap to one point (45-44) with a 5-0 run, but it was the closest the Friars would get. The Peahens finished the game on a 9-2 run to make the final, 54-46.

Etheridge was the only Friar to reach double figures (11 points), followed by Nwafili who scored nine points. Sophomore Kristen Brown (River Vale, N.J.) grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

Joining Jones in double figures were Khalish Lewis and Lauma Reke. Lewis posted a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Reke netted 10 points in the win.

Providence College (1-3) returns to action against Quinnipiac in a non-conference match-up on Tuesday, November 29 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be played at PC's Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I.
