BOSTON, MASS. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Northeastern, 71-51, on Wednesday, November 23 at the Cabot Center in Boston, Mass. Shaleyse Smallwood led all scorers with 26 points. Freshman Chelsea Marandola (Johnston, R.I.) led the Friar offense for the second-straight game with 11 points, all of which were scored in the second half.

In the first half the Friars were plagued by poor shooting and turnovers. Providence connected on just four field goals (4-20) and turned the ball over 16 times. PC trailed 38-20 at halftime. Freshman Ashley Etheridge (Portland, Conn.) recorded two of the Friars' four buckets in the half and led the team with six points. Half of PC's 20 points were scored at the free-throw line, as the team hit 10-of-14 attempts. Northeastern's Smallwood led all scorers in the opening 20 minutes with 16 points. The Huskies hit for 15 points off of PC's 16 miscues in the half.

In the second half, Northeastern outscored Providence by just two points (33-31). The Friars improved their shooting performance, hitting 11-of-27 attempts from the floor (40.7-percent). The Huskies shot 50-percent or better in each half and finished the game at 51.1-percent (24-47).

Joining Marandola in double figures for PC was Etheridge, who tallied 10 points. Senior Allie Gard (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and sophomore Kristen Brown (River Vale, N.J.) each scored seven points. Senior Gayle Nwafili (Maplewood, N.J.) led all rebounders with six boards.

The Huskies Ashlee Feldman also registered a 20-point effort on the night, combining with Smallwood for 46 points. Maralene Zwarich pulled down a game-high six boards.

Providence College (1-2) returns to action on Saturday, November 26 against Saint Peter's College in Jersey City, N.J. The game is scheduled to be played at the Yanitelli Center on the campus of Saint Peter's. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. PC's next home game is against Quinnipiac on Tuesday, November 29 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I.
