PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team placed two student-athletes on the Division I National Independent Volleyball All-Academic Team as senior Annie Fiorvanti (Northport, N.Y.) and sophomore Kasey Adinolfi (Branford, Conn.) each earned the honor. For Fiorvanti it marks the second consecutive year she has received the award.
Adinolfi finished the year having seen action in 84 games for the Friars. The biology major totaled 134 digs and currently holds a cumulative GPA of 3.40.
Fiorvanti closed out her collegiate playing career with 2,359 assists, the fifth-highest total in school-history. Amassing four triple-doubles over her career including three during her senior year (and one in her final day of collegiate competition), Fiorvanti also posted 17 double-doubles during her senior campaign.
In addition, Fiorvanti totaled 699 digs and 505 kills over 407 games during career at PC, including 819 assists, 306 digs and 196 kills over 123 games her senior season. The Empire State native averaged 5.80 assists per game for her career including a 7.75 assit per game average in her final three years as a setter. Fiorvanti earned three All-Tournament team honors this year, at the Colgate Invitational, at the Gardner-Webb Tournament and at the National Independent Championships. She is a three-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, serving as their treasurer, and is also a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. A two-time National Independent Volleyball All-Academic selection and elementary education major, she holds a cumulative GPA of 3.55.
Fiorvanti was ranked among the top-10 nationally among all Division I Independent student-athletes with her 819 assists and 6.66 assist per game average. She also finished second on the squad with 306 digs and a 2.49 dig per game average, as well as third with 196 kills and 46 blocks. Fiorvanti had a season-high 49 assists at Hartford on Sept. 30 as well as a season-best 20-dig performance at Colgate on Sept. 10. As a junior, she had a career-high 59 assists against Marist on Oct. 1. In her final day of collegiate competition, Fiorvanti posted the fourth triple-double of her career totaling 37 assists, 13 digs and 12 kills to help the Friars earn a victory at the National Independent Volleyball Championships in Greeley, Colo.
PC volleyball finished the 2005 season with a 7-28 record, its most wins total since 2000.
