Women's Hockey Falls At No. 2 Dartmouth, 10-2

HANOVER, N.H. -- The Providence College women's hockey team, playing in its first game since December 4, was defeated, 10-2, at No. 2 Dartmouth on Sunday, January 2 at Thompson Arena in Hanover, N.H.

Dartmouth (12-1-0) scored all the goals it would need in the first period as Cherie Piper tallied two of her four goals to lead the Big Green to a 3-1 first period advantage. Providence freshman Kelli Doolin (Dorchester, Mass.) accounted for PC's (8-5-3) first period goal, recording her fourth tally of the season at 13:48. Seniors Rush Zimmerman (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) and Emily Gryp (Lexington, Mass.) assisted on the goal.

Dartmouth scored two more goals in the second period and added five in the third period as the Big Green earned its third consecutive victory over the Friars. Sophomore Sonny Watrous (Albuquerque, N.M.) scored PC's second goal at 2:28 of the third period to cut the Dartmouth lead to 6-2. It marked Watrous' 10th goal of the season.

The Big Green outshot the Friars, 51-23. PC sophomore goalie Lauren Florio (North Providence, R.I.) made a career-high 32 saves in a back-up role. Dartmouth's Kate Lane stopped 21 shots in the win.

The Friars will return to action on January 8 with a road game at Mercyhurst.
