Women's Soccer - Game Preview - Providence College Athletics

Georgetown (4-4, 1-0 BIG EAST): The Hoyas return to BIG EAST action after a shutout win over St. John's, 3-0, on Friday, September 24. The victory over St. John's was their second shut-out and first conference win of the season. Georgetown outshot the Red Storm 26-9, with 17 shots coming from the first half. The Hoyas possess a balanced offensive, as they are led by freshman Sara Jordan, junior Shara McNeill, and senior Nicole Depalma, each with 11 points on the season. Georgetown is second in the conferece averaging 2.75 assists per game, and third with overall assists (22). Freshman goalkeeper Jade Higgins, the Big East Rookie of the Week (Sept. 27), leads the Hoyas averaging 3.75 saves per game. Higgins posted two shut-outs on the season, and has a .698 save percentage.

Providence College (3-6, 0-2 BIG EAST): The Providence College women's soccer team hosts the Georgetown Hoyas in BIG EAST action on Friday, October 1, at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. In their last meeting, the Friars were shut-out, 1-0, on September 28, 2003, in Washington, D.C. Providence's only two victories over the Hoyas came in their first two meetings, shutting out Georgetown twice on September 17, 1995 (6-0), and on Ocotober 12, 1996 (2-0). The Hoyas hold a 5-2 all-time edge over the Friars. Providence is coming off a three-game losing-skid, and remains winless in conference play. Senior BriAnne Bruni (Bristol, Conn.) leads the Friars with 10 points on the season (five goals). Senior Veronica Bakke (Alesund, Norway) follows with eight points on the season (four goals). Bakke looks to continue her streak, having scored one goal in each of the last three Friar contests. Freshman goalkeeper Laura Elfers (Deer Park, N.Y.) is ranked second in the BIG EAST with 48 saves, and leads the conference in saves per game (6.00).
