Women's Tennis Splits a Pair at Fairfield

Fairfield, Conn. - In women's tennis action, Providence College traveled to Fairfield for the 5-1 Invitational on Saturday, September 25. The Friars opened play with a 3-4 loss to Fordham and concluded the day with a 6-1 win over the home team Stags.

In singles competition, Providence posted three wins over Fordham and four over Fairfield, for a total of seven victories on the day. Versus Fordham, seniors Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine), Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) and Lindsey Christensen (Northboro, Mass.) recorded wins at the Nos. 3, 4, and 5 positions, respectively. Against Fairfield, sophomore Jen Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.), junior Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.), Gilbride and Rodger each tallied a win at their respective No. 1 through No. 4 positions.

In doubles action, the Friars were represented by sophomore Andrea Lee (Cumberland, R.I.) and freshman Carly Hoffend (Pittsford, N.Y.). This duo defeated the Stags (6-7, 6-3, 6-2) after falling to the Rams in straight sets (3-6, 4-6).
