Women's Tennis Falls To Connecticut

The Providence College women's tennis team was defeated by Connecticut, 6-1, on Wednesday, April 7 in Providence, R.I.

In singles action, Providence's No. 1 freshman Jen Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) was defeated by Jen LoRusso, 6-3, 6-3, while sophomore Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) was defeated by Barbara Schumsky, 6-1, 611 at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) was defeated at No. 3 by Alison Adamski, 6-2, 6-4, while junior Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) was dropped by Christine Burek, 6-4, 6-0. Junior Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) was defeated by Ashley Petruzzi, 6-2, 6-3. Freshman Andrea Lee (Cumberland, R.I.) earned Providence's lone point on the day as she defeated Christi Lazar, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 6 singles.

In doubles action the No. 1 team of Bitetti and Lapane fell to LoRusso and Adamski, 8-3, while the No. 2 team of Gilbride and Rodger were defeated by Schumsky and Lazar, 8-2. In the final doubles match of the day the No. 3 team of Lee and Daigle were defeated by Burek and Petruzzi, 8-5.

Providence returns to action on Monday, March 12 as they host Fairfield at 1:30 p.m.

Christine Burek (UConn) defeated Molly Gilbride (PC)   6-4, 6-05.  Ashley Pertuzzi (UConn) defeated Nicole Rodger (PC) 6-2, 6-36.  Andrea Lee (PC) defeated Christi Lazar (UConn)      6-3, 6-4
DOUBLES:
1.  LoRosso and Adamski (UConn) defeated Lapane and Bitetti (PC)    8-32.  Schumsky and Lazar (UConn) defeated Gilbride and Rodger (PC)    8-23.  Burek and Pertuzzi (UConn) defeated Lee and Daigle (PC)     8-5
