The Providence College Friars lost, 4-3, to Fairfield University on Monday, April 12 in Providence, R.I.

In singles action, Providence's No. 1, freshman Jen Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) defeated Diana Webb in a tiebreaker, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4). PC's No. 2, sophomore Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) defeated Taylor Barvoets, 6-1, 6-4, while No. 3, sophomore Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) was defeated by Andrea Suriano in a tiebreaker, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2). Providence's No. 4, junior Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) and No. 5, sophomore Marissa Bigelli (Lincoln, Mass.) were defeated by Erin Reeves, 6-0, 6-3 and Megan Stauffer, 6-0, 6-0, respectively. Friar freshman Andrea Lee (Cumberland, R.I.) won her third consecutive match as she defeated Tiffany Marsocci, 6-4, 6-3, at the No. 6 spot.

In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Bitetti and Lapane fell to Webb and Barvoets, 9-7 (7-3), while the No. 2 team of Rodger and senior Beth Bryson (West Springfield, Mass.) were defeated by Suriano and Reeves, 8-0. The No. 3 team of Daigle and Lee won the last doubles match of the day as they downed Stauffer and Annie Mullowney, 8-6.

The Friars return to action on Wednesday, April 14 as they travel to Durham, N.H. to take on the Wildcats of New Hampshire at 2:00 p.m.
