Providence College Friars (4-5, 3-1 MAAC): The Providence College men's lacrosse team is scheduled to host Wagner in conference action on Saturday, April 17 at 2:00 p.m. in Providence, R.I. Providence got of to a slow start this season going win less in its first three games. Over their last six games the Friars have posted a 4-2 mark to improve their overall record to 4-5 (3-1 MAAC). The Friars recently defeated St. Joseph's, 13-6, in MAAC action on April 10 in Philadelphia, Pa. Providence had seven players with multiple points led by sophomore Tom Kelly (Henniker, N.H.) who scored a hat trick. Junior Dan Giuntini (Floral Park, N.Y.) remains the Friars' leading scorer (19 points) as he tallied two goals and an assist, while freshman Carlo Sunseri (Pittsburgh, Pa.) also recorded three points on two goals and one assist. Freshman Peter Littell (Upper Montclair, N.J.) made his third-consecutive start between the pipes for the Friars and was replaced by junior Andrew McMinn (Pittsburgh, Pa.) after the first period. The two combined for eight saves.
Giuntini's 19 points (16 goals, three assists) leads the Friars though nine games. Freshman Brendan Ryan (Chatham, N.J.) is second on the team with three goals and 13 assists, while junior Jonathan Hollister (Longmeadow, Mass.) is third with 11 points (five goals, six assists). Junior Andrew McMinn (Pittsburgh, Pa.) has been the teams' primary goaltender this season, playing 300:14 minutes in the cage. McMinn has a 9.19 goals against average and a .549 save percentage. Littell has played in five games for a total of 208:25 minutes and has a 4.32 goals against average and a .750 save percentage.
Junior Mark Rotella (Smithtown, N.Y.) has taken the majority of the face-offs this season and currently has a .470 face-off percentage (47-100). Senior defenseman Brian O'Rorke (Montclair, N.J.) leads the team with 31 groundballs.
Wagner Seahawks (1-8, 1-3 MAAC): Wagner enters Saturday's MAAC match up against Providence with a 1-8 overall record and a 1-3 mark in league play. The Seahawks lone conference victory came on March 17 as they downed VMI, 5-4. In Wagner's most recent game on April 10, the squad fell to Canisius, 8-4. Mike Sciamanna leads the team in scoring with 16 points on 10 goals and six assists. Kevin Zulauf is second on the team with nine goals and three assists for 12 points, while Tom Marchetti is third with nine points (five goals, four assists). Chris Sochacki has played all but 16:55 minutes in goal for Wagner this season. He currently has a 10.55 goals against average and a .602 save percentage. Last season, Providence defeated Wagner, 9-5, in Staten Island, N.Y. The last time the two teams met in Providence, R.I. was during the 2001 season when the Friars earned a 14-2 victory.
