PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College junior forward Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, Conn.) was named to the CBS SportsLine.com First Team All-America squad on Monday, March 8. He joins St. Joesph's Jameer Nelson, Connecticut's Emeka Okafor, Oregon's Luke Jackson and Stanford's Josh Childress as the other members of the First Team.

The First Team All-America appointment is Gomes' second of the season. ESPN.com honored Gomes with the same honor on March 5. His two All-America honors match those achieved by former Friar Eric Murdock, who was named to the Wooden First Team and the Scripps Howard First Team in 1991. Gomes was announced as a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team on Monday, March 8 and becomes the first Friar since Jamel Thomas in 1999 to receive a conference First Team distinction.

Gomes led Providence to a final regular season mark of 20-7, 11-5 in BIG EAST play and the team's highest national ranking at #12 in the Associated Press poll. He leads Providence in scoring (19.0 ppg) and rebounding (9.5 rpg) this season.

He was, for the fourth time this season, named a BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday, March 5 after averaging 22.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in conference wins at Notre Dame and at St. John's. He currently ranks fourth in the conference in scoring, averaging 19.0 points per game. He is second in rebounding with 9.5 boards per contest and fifth in field goal percentage at 51.3%. He earned Wooden Watch Player of the Week honors five times this season.

Gomes, who played for three seasons at Wilby High School (Conn.), is the son of Teresa Gomes and John Brooks. ______________________________________________________________________________
