Women's Tennis Falls To Rutgers

The Providence College women's tennis team was defeated by Rutgers, 7-0, on Saturday, February 28 in Providence, R.I.
In singles action, Providence's No. 1 freshman Jen Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) was defeated by Andrea Weckstein, 6-3, 6-2, while sophomore Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) was defeated by Alina Balasa, 6-4, 2-6, 1-6 at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) was defeated at No. 3 by Helen Magomedova, 6-4, 6-2, while junior Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) retired early in her match with Jill Markowitz with the score, 6-3, 2-1. Junior Nicole Rodger and freshman Andrea Lee (Cumberland, R.I.) lost to Kaitlin Link and Lauren Edelschein, 6-0, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-1, respectively.
In doubles action the No. 1 team of Bitetti and Lapane fell to Weckstein and Balasa, 8-2, while the No. 2 team of Daigle and Lee were defeated by Link and Markowitz, 8-1. In the final doubles match of the day Gilbride and Rodger were defeated by Magomedova and Edelschein, 8-2.
Providence returns to action on Sunday, March 7 as they take on Nova University at 2:00 p.m.
