MEN'S LACROSSE GAME PREVIEWProvidence College at Fairfield UniversitySaturday, February 21, 2004 * 1:00 p.m.Fairfield, Conn.

PROVIDENCE COLLEGE FRIARS (0-0, 0-0 MAAC): The Providence College men's lacrosse team opens the 2004 regular-season schedule with Fairfield University on Saturday, February 21. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. in Fairfield, Conn. The Friars finished the 2003 campaign as Co-Regular Season MAAC Champions with a 7-1 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (7-9 overall). The two teams have met 12 times during the all-time series and Fairfield holds the advantage with a 8-4 record vs. the Friars. The Friars have not defeated Fairfield since the 1994 season, when PC edged the Stags by a score of 12-9. Providence has been winless against Fairfield in each of the last six meetings. Last season, the Friars fell to the Stags, 10-6, on March 23, 2003 in Providence, R.I. The Friars return several key players from last season's championship team including senior defensemen Brian O'Rorke (Montclair, N.J.) and Ben Brown (Ranch Santa Fe, Calif.), junior midfielder Jonathan Hollister (Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior goalkeeper Andrew McMinn (Pittsburgh, Pa.). O'Rorke is a two-time MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-MAAC First Team selection at defense. In 2003, he recorded 35 groundballs and now has a total of 120 in his three years with the Friars. Brown, a two-time team captain, has 101 groundballs in his career at Providence and was ranked second among his teammates in 2003 with 44 groundballs. O'Rorke and Brown have been the back-bone of the Friar defensive unit for the last three years. Hollister was the team's leading scorer in 2003 with 27 points on 13 goals and 14 assists. He also registered 35 groundballs while playing at midfield and attack. McMinn returns for his third season with the Friars between the pipes. He finished the 2003 season with a team-leading 46 groundballs, a .605 save percentage and a 6.92 goals against average. McMinn was named to the All-MAAC Second Team for his efforts and finished 4th in the nation among NCAA Division I goaltenders in goals against average and 12th in the nation in save percentage.

FAIRFIELD UNIVERSITY STAGS(0-0, 0-0 GWLL): The Fairfield University Stags finished the 2003 campaign with a 5-6 overall record and a 1-4 mark in the Great Western Lacrosse League (GWLL). Seniors Rory McCarthy and Matt Baglio return to the field for their final seasons at Fairfield. McCarthy led the Stags in scoring last season with 30 points on 22 goals and eight assists. Baglio is the team's second-leading returning scorer from a year ago as he totaled 19 points on four goals and 15 assists in 2003. The Stags have won each of the last six meetings against the Friars and hold a 8-4 advantage in the all-time series.
