BOSTON (AP) - Ryan Gomes scored the most points. Rob Sanders scored the most important ones.
Gomes had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Sanders hit a 3-pointer to key an 11-0 run late in the second half in No. 24 Providence's 61-52 victory over Boston College on Saturday.
"Sanders came down and made what I thought was the biggest shot of the game," Boston College coach Al Skinner said. "He hadn't made one (3-pointer) prior to that, and that really stretched it out."
Sanders broke two fingers on his shooting hand and missed a month before returning against Seton Hall on Feb. 1. He was 2-for-13 shooting in his first three games back, including 1-of-6 from 3-point range.
But Sanders rediscovered his shooting touch against Villanova on Wednesday, going 3-for-5 from the field. And he picked up right where he left off on Saturday, making four of eight shots and a 3-pointer that turned back a BC rally.
"I'm just getting back into the flow," Sanders said. "Every game it feels a little better. I was in a rhythm before I got hurt."
After being held scoreless in the first half, Sanders hit a basket to give the Friars (17-5, 8-3 Big East) an 11-point lead early in the second half. Then, after BC pulled within 48-45, Sanders hit a 3-pointer to start an 11-point run.
"This group is not going to panic," Providence coach Tim Welsh said. "They play with a lot of confidence. We've got our swagger back."
Gomes, the No. 2 scorer and rebounder in the Big East, topped 20 points for the 12th time this season. Reserve Dwight Brewington scored 10 points, and Marcus Douthit had nine points and seven rebounds as Providence won its third straight and ninth in 11 games.
Craig Smith had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Eagles (16-8, 5-6) but he limped off the court with a sprained lower back and wasn't around when Providence put the game away.
Boston College shot 39 percent in its lowest-scoring game of the season and dropped to 1-3 against currently ranked teams.
The Eagles trailed 41-29 before scoring seven consecutive points. PC led by seven when Jermaine Watson hit a 3-pointer and Jared Dudley made one of two free throws to pull the Eagles within 48-45 with 6:35 left.
But the Friars reeled off 11 consecutive points to put the game out of reach.
Sanders made a 3-pointer, then Tuukka Kotti made the second of two free throws before Gomes scored on a breakaway dunk. Skinner was called for a technical foul when he argued about a foul not being called on Uka Agbai's dunk attempt, and Gomes made one of the two free throws to make it a 10-point game.
Sanders and Brewington made consecutive baskets inside to make it 59-45 with 3:11 left.
Gomes scored 10 consecutive points in the first half, and the Friars went on a 12-1 run to open a 30-16 lead with 3:16 left. Boston College scored nine of the last 11 points of the half to come within seven.
