Women's Basketball Falls To Villanova, 68-41

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Villanova, 68-41, during a BIG EAST Conference match-up on Wednesday, February 11 in Providence, R.I. Providence falls to 4-17 overall (0-10 BIG EAST) with the loss, while Villanova improves to 17-5 overall (7-4 BIG EAST).
PC's Gayle Nwafili (Maplewood, N.J.) led all scorers with 15 points and added eight rebounds in the loss. Villanova was paced by Liad Suez, who netted 12 points and pulled down eight boards. Jenna Viani contributed 10 points off the bench for the Wildcats.
Villanova held a 45-21 lead at halftime. The Wildcats dominated the first 12:16 of action as they jumped out to a 30-8 lead. Providence regained its composure and 'Nova outscored PC by just two points (15-13) over the remaining 7:44 of the half. Villanova shot a blistering 65.5-percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, draining 19-of-29 attempts from the field, including two-of-two from beyond the three point arc. Suez and Courtney Mix led the Wildcats with eight points apiece at halftime. Freshman Shauna Snyder (Albuquerque, N.M.) led Providence with six points in the half.
Nwafili scored 11 of her game-high 15 points in the final 20 minutes for PC, but Villanova's first half performance was too much for the Friars to overcome. In the second half, Villanova only outscored Providence by three-point (23-20), but the Wildcats first half effort was too much to overcome.
Providence College (4-17, 0-10 BIG EAST) will travel to South Bend, Ind. to take on Notre Dame on Saturday, February 14 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be played at the Joyce Center on the campus of Notre Dame.
