Karen Thatcher Named HOCKEY EAST Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (November 8, 2004) -- Providence College junior forward Karen Thatcher (Douglas, Mass.) was named Women's HOCKEY EAST Player of the Week on November 8, 2004.

Thatcher earned the honor with her aggressive offensive play in the Friars' weekend home games versus Clarkson and No. 5 St. Lawrence. On Saturday, November 6, Thatcher scored the first two goals of the game in the first period to lead Providence to a 3-3 tie versus Clarkson. On Sunday, October 7, Thatcher posted a hat trick in the 5-1 victory over No. 5 St. Lawrence. Thatcher leads the league with 16 points (ten goals, six assists) and has matched last season's offensive output in goals with 10 in the first seven games of the season.

Thatcher is ranked first in the nation with eight power-play goals and is tied for 15th averaging 2.00 goals per game.

Providence hits the road on Wednesday, November 10 to face No. 3 Harvard in Boston, Mass. at 7:00 p.m.
