PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The second-ranked Providence College women's cross country team will compete at the NCAA Northeast Regionals on Saturday, November 13 at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. The top two teams will automatically qualify for the NCAA's. Providence will be aiming to win its fourth NCAA Northeast Regional title.

Providence, which captured last season's NCAA Northeast Regionals, will be one of the favorites to advance to the NCAA's for the 16th-consecutive season under the tutelage of 21st-year Head Coach Ray Treacy. This season, the Friars have won all of their five meets, including their first BIG EAST title since 1997.

Providence's team on Saturday will feature four seniors led by All-Americans Kim Smith (Auckland, New Zealand) and Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland). Smith has won all three races that she has participated in this season. Most recently, she captured the BIG EAST individual crown on October 29 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. Her time of 19:23 was a BIG EAST Conference record at Franklin Park, breaking the old mark by one minute. Cullen has been victorious in one meet this season and has recorded two second-place finishes. Cullen took second-place at the BIG EAST Championships in a time of 20:10.

Deirdre Byrne (Wicklow, Ireland), Katie Twarog (Albany, N.Y.) and Roisin Quinn (Waterford, Ireland) makeup the senior class for Saturday's race. Byrne finished 15th (21:09) at the BIG EAST Championships. Her best finish this season came at the Fordham Invitational as she took second-place (18:19) at Van Cortlandt Park. Twarog was a 24th-place finisher (21:40) at the BIG EAST Championships. In addition, she has recorded two top-10 finishes. Quinn, who placed 29th (21:59) at the BIG EAST Championships, has placed in the top-10 once this season.

Rounding out the PC squad are juniors Fiona Crombie (Christchurch, New Zealand) and Jane Nalder (Wellington, New Zealand). Crombie has placed in the top seven in all of her four races, including the BIG EAST, where she placed fourth (20:11). Nalder has competed in every race this season and has two top-10 finishes. Most recently, she finished 20th (21:26) at the BIG EAST Championships.

If the Friars qualify, they will compete at the NCAA's on Monday, November 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.
