The Providence College women's soccer team captured their first conference victory of the season, 3-1 over Seton Hall on Friday, October 8 in South Orange, N.J. The Friars improve to 4-9, while the Pirates fall to 6-5-2.
Seton Hall outshot the Friars 5-3, after a scoreless first half of play. Rita Massot of Seton Hall scored the game's first goal at the 65:11 mark. Massot scored her third goal of the season when she recovered her own shot off of a goalie save by freshman Ashley Fedyshyn (Lincroft, N.J.). The Friars rallied late in the second half as senior Veronica Bakke (Alesund, Norway) fired a goal into the cage from 12 yards out, assisted by seniors Maura Robertson (Wellesley, Mass.) and BriAnne Bruni (Bristol, Conn.) at 85:40. Bakke returned the favor two minutes later assisting Bruni 10 yards out off of a goal kick. Bruni continued her offensive onslaught scoring her second goal of the game from 10 yards out at 88:28. Robertson was credited with the assist, as she leads the team with five on the season.
Fedyshyn posted five saves and allowed one goal, while Amanda Becker recorded three saves and allowed three goals in 90 minutes of play. Seton Hall held the shot advantage 12-9.
