Providence, R.I. - Sophomore Colin McDonald (Wethersfield, Conn.) and freshman Jon Rheault (Deering, N.H.) each scored two goals to lead the Providence College (3-1, 2-1) men's hockey team to a 6-2 win over the UMass Minutemen (3-3, 1-1) on Friday, October 29 at Schneider Arena.

Sophomore Chase Watson (Media, Pa.) opened the scoring for PC at 7:18 of the first period when his wrist shot glanced off the cross bar and bounced into the net. UMass responded just over two minutes later at 9:52 when P.J. Fenton took advantage of a rebound right in front to record the first of his two goals on the night.

The Friars scored the next four goals en route to the win. McDonald tallied his fourth goal of the season as he was setup in front by sophomore Bryan Horan (Farmington, Conn.) at 13:03. At 17:21, McDonald tapped in his second goal of the night. Senior Eric Lundberg (Vernon, Conn.) fired a slap shot that came off the boards behind the net, but McDonald took advantage and poked the puck into the empty net.

Rheault gave the Friars a 4-1 lead at 10:07 of the second period, scoring his first collegiate goal. Senior Chris Chaput (Pawtucket, R.I.) found a streaking Rheault at the PC blue line and Rheault skated in on a breakaway before lifting a backhander past UMass netminder, Tim Warner. Just 54 seconds into the third period, Rheault tallied his second of the night as the Friars increased their lead to, 5-1. One minute later, the Minutemen's Fenton made the score, 5-2, as UMass took advantage of a PC turnover.

However, sophomore Jamie Carroll (Andover, Conn.) capped off the scoring at 9:36 of the third period to make the score, 6-2. Freshman Vince Goulet (Highland Ranch, Colo.) assisted on Carroll's first goal in a PC uniform.

Senior netminder David Cacciola (Burlington, Mass.) made 18 saves to earn his third victory of the season, while Warner stopped 28 shots.

The two teams will face each other again on Saturday, October 30 at the Mullins Center in Amherst, Mass.
