Women's Tennis Shuts Out Monmouth, 7-0

Kingston, R.I. - On Sunday, October 10, the women's tennis team took on Monmouth, in a 9:00 a.m. match at Rhode Island. The Friars overpowered the Hawks, sweeping all matches for a 7-0 victory. With this win, PC improved to 5-1 on the season.

In singles action, sophomore Jennifer Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.), junior Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) and senior Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) each shutout their opponents 6-0, 6-0 at the respective No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 positions. Playing at No. 4, sophomore Andrea Lee (Cumberland, R.I.) picked up a victory in straight sets (6-1, 6-1). Senior Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) posted a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5, and senior Lindsey Christensen (Northboro, Mass.) recorded a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 6 spot.

In doubles play, Providence tallied three more wins, with victories coming from Daigle and Bitetti at No. 1 (8-2), Gilbride and Rodger at No. 2 (8-1), and Christensen and freshman Katherine Lyons (Barrington, R.I.) at No. 3 (8-2).

The Friars return to action on Tuesday, October 12, as they host Holy Cross in their 3:00 p.m. home opener
