Women's Tennis Crushes Crusaders

Providence, R.I. - On Tuesday, October 12, the Providence College women's tennis team hosted Holy Cross in their 4:00 p.m. home opener. The Friars dominated doubles play, winning all three matches, and went 4-1-1 in singles play. With the victory, PC improved to 6-1 on the season while Holy Cross dropped to 2-5.

In singles competition, sophomore Jennifer Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) took on No. 1 duties for Providence, and fell in straight sets (6-7, 2-6) to Kerry Trimmer. At No. 2, junior Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Katie Irwin, while senior Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) defeated Meredith Bacon at No. 3 by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Andrea Lee (Cumberland, R.I.) picked up a No. 4 victory over Amy Garrity (7-5, 6-1). The No. 5 match, between senior Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) and Meg Moran, was called a draw with scores favoring Rodger, 7-6, 4-4. Finally, at No. 6, senior Lindsey Christensen (Northboro, Mass.) shut down Katie Guarino in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles play, Providence captured all three matches, with victories coming from Daigle and Bitetti at No. 1 (8-3), Gilbride and Rodger at No. 2 (8-3), and Lee and freshman Carly Hoffend (Pittsford, N.Y.) at No. 3 (8-3).

The Friars return to action this weekend, October 15-17 as they travel to Fairfield, Conn. for the New England Championship.
