Box Score

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's hockey team skated to a 1-1 overtime tie versus 10th-ranked New Hampshire on Friday, January 9 in Hockey East action at Schneider Arena. PC netminder David Cacciola (Burlington, Mass.) and UNH goaltender Jeff Pietrasiak (Shrewsbury, Mass.) each made 33 saves to lead their respective team.

The Wildcats opened the scoring at 13:07 of the first period as Brian Yandle (Milton, Mass.) took advantage of a five-on-three power play and fired a slap shot from the slot that eluded Cacciola.

UNH carried the play in the second period, outshooting the Friars, 15-9, but it was Providence which scored the equalizer on the power play. Senior Jason Platt (Portola Valley, Calif.) fired a shot that missed the net, but the puck bounced off the boards and came out in front of the net, where junior Chris Chaput (Pawtucket, R.I.) tapped it into the empty net at 4:11. For Chaput, it was his fifth goal of the season and his 20th point, which leads the team.

Cacciola kept the Friars in the game, thwarting numerous UNH breakaway chances. His 33 saves tied a career mark which he set during the 2001-02 season. Pietrasiak also was impressive for the Wildcats as he made a career-high 33 stops.

The Friars and the Wildcats complete the home-and-home series on Saturday, January 9 at the Whittemore Center at 7:00 p.m.
