BOSTON, Mass. -- Junior netminder David Cacciola (Burlington, Mass.) stopped a career-high 42 shots as the Providence College men's hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie at Northeastern on Friday, January 16.
The Huskies took a 1-0 lead at the 11:53 mark of the opening period when Brian Tudrick pounced on a loose puck on the slot and fired in his second goal of the season. Northeastern outshot the Friars, 43-25 for the game, including, 13-4, in the second period.
The Friars scored the equalizer just 19 seconds into the third period. Senior Cody Loughlean (Innisfail, Alta.) fired a wrist shot, which was blocked in front, but classmate Peter Zingoni (Newtown, Conn.) was able to hold the puck long enough for a streaking Chris Chaput (Pawtucket, R.I.), whose wrist shot beat Keni Gibson high to stick side. Both teams had several opportunities to score in the overtime period, but they were turned aside.
Cacciola, whose previous career-high was 33, was impressive in net for PC. Gibson finished with 24 saves for the Huskies.
The two teams will play each other again on Saturday, January 17 at Schneider Arena at 7:00 p.m.
