Women's Soccer Defeats Long Island, 2-0

The Providence College women's soccer team defeated Long Island on Sunday, September 7, 2-0.

The Friars got on the board in the 24th minute of the game when sophomore Kathryn Mahoney (Narragansett, R.I.) scored her first collegiate goal on an assist from junior Lauren Ritchie (Sayville, N.Y.). Providence netted their second goal of the day just 12 minutes later as junior BriAnne Bruni (Bristol, Conn.) headed the ball past the Blackbird's freshman keeper Stephanie Kansky. Mahoney earned her third point of day as she crossed the ball to Bruni to earn the assist. Senior goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) made three saves as the Friars outshot the Blackbirds, 19-8.

With the win, the Friars improved to 3-1-0 on the season, while the Blackbirds fell to 1-2-0. Providence returns to action on Saturday, September 13 as they host the Marist Red Foxes at Glay Field at 2:00 p.m.
