BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Providence College junior Ayana Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) notched 27 kills in two matches and was named to the all-tournament team as the Friars competed in the second day of action at the 2003 Mountain Hawk Classic hosted by Lehigh on Saturday, September 20 at Taylor Gym.
Cadres also recorded eight digs to help the defense as Providence (1-13) earned its first win of the season in a 3-0 (30-21, 30-28, 30-25) defeat of Quinnipiac (2-11). Sophomore Katie Fleming (Cary, N.C.) had 19 kills and 15 digs in her double-double effort to help the Friars tame the Bobcats.
Niagara (2-10) bested Providence, 3-0 (30-24, 30-23, 30-24), in the early match for the Friars. In addition to Cadres' 11 kills and seven digs, sophomore Allison Baker (Glastonbury, Conn.) hit for seven kills and five digs.
The Friars return to action on Wednesday, September 24 in a 7:00 p.m. match at Holy Cross.
