CENTERVILLE, MASS. - Providence College sophomore Katharine Lary (Canaan, N.H.) was named ECAC Player of the Week in field hockey. The announcement was made by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) office on Tuesday, September 16. It marks the third individual honor of the season for Lary, who has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on two occasions through five games of the 2003 season.
Lary, who earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time on September 15, helped lead the Friars to a 2-0 record last week with non-conference wins over Holy Cross and Vermont. Lary registered a total of 10 points in two games on three goals and four assists. On September 10, Providence defeated Holy Cross 5-4 in overtime. Lary notched two goals and two assists in the game, including the game-winning assist in overtime. On September 14, Lary contributed one goal and two assists in the Friars' 3-0 victory against Vermont. Her goal came just 2:20 into the first half of play and proved to be the game-winner. Lary leads the Friars with 15 points on five goals and five assists through the first five games of the 2003 schedule.
Providence College is currently 3-2 overall on the season and will face UMass in non-conference action on Saturday, September 20 in Amherst, Mass. at 1:00 p.m. The Friars will remain on the road for a match-up with Albany at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 21. PC's game against Albany will be played on the campus of Rensselaer Poly Institute (R.P.I.) in Troy, N.Y.
