NEW YORK (AP) - Ryan Gomes scored 28 points as Providence rallied to beat St. John's 69-59 Saturday for its sixth straight victory over the Red Storm.
Rob Sanders came off the bench and scored 19 for the Friars (11-11, 4-7 Big East), who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Donnie McGrath had 13 points for Providence, which trailed 36-23 at halftime.
Marcus Hatten had 24 points for the Red Storm (12-9, 5-6), who have now lost three of their last four.
St. John's took a 36-20 lead with 50 seconds remaining before the break after Willie Shaw made a pair of 3-pointers to key a 21-8 run. Providence shot just 10-of-26 in the half.
Gomes then got hot to open the second half. He scored 13 points in a 26-6 comeback run for the Friars, who took a 49-42 lead. Sanders scored 11 in the run.
Providence increased the advantage to 59-46 on a free throw by Sanders. St. John's never got closer than 62-56 on a pair of free throws by Tim Doyle with 2:32 to play.
