PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Shieku Kabba had a career high 20 points on Saturday night to lead Providence to an 89-58 victory over Virginia Tech.
Marcus Douthit and Maris Laksa had 14 points each for the Friars (10-8, 3-4 Big East) and Rob Sanders added 10 in the team's largest margin of victory this season.
The Hokies (8-11, 1-5) were led by Bryant Matthews and Terry Taylor with 18 points each.
Providence overcame an early 8-1 deficit, but once they took the lead on Douthit's jumper at 16:12, they never trailed again. The Friars led 43-32 at halftime, sparked by Ryan Gomes with nine points.
The Friars' full-court pressure held Virginia Tech to 34 percent shooting for the game, 29 percent in the second half. The Hokies were 0-for-10 from 3-point range.
Romuald Augustin sank two 3-pointers within 14 seconds early in the second half to increase the lead to 51-32.
The Friars forced 18 turnovers and shot 64 percent in second half, 52 percent in the game.
