STONY BROOK, NY - Sophomore Ayana Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) tied for a match-high 10 kills on 37 total attacks, but the Friar offense struggled to put points on the board as they fell to host Stony Brook, 3-0 (16-30, 27-30, 23-30), at the 2002 Holiday Inn Express Tournament at the SBU Sports Complex on Friday.
With the loss, the Friars drop to 0-4 on the season. Stony Brook improves to 5-1.
Senior Sandy Fanning (E. Amherst, N.Y.) led the Friar defense with a match-high 13 digs. Freshman Katie Fleming (Cary, N.C.) notched six kills and nine digs.
The Seawolves were led by LaToya Byerly who registered team-high numbers with 10 kills and 12 digs.
The Friars return to action on Saturday, Sept. 7 as they conclude play in the Holiday Inn Express tournament with matches against St. Francis (N.Y.) at 10:00 a.m. and Bucknell at 3:00 p.m.
