HAMDEN, Conn. -- The Providence College women's soccer earned its first win of the season with a 2-1 victory against Quinnipiac in the Quinnipiac Classic on Wednesday, September 4 at Hamden, Conn.
PC sophomore Maura Robertson (Wellesley, Mass.) scored the first goal of the game when she kicked in a low shot into the right corner of the net at 41:23 for the only goal of the first half. Quinnipiac tied the game at 1-1 on a goal by Christine LaVallee in the 56th minute. Senior Kristin Gardner (Trumbull, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal for PC when she blasted in a shot into the top center of the net in the 70th minute.
Friar junior goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) made five saves in the win. Heather Allen recorded six stops in the loss for Quinnipiac.
With the win, Providence improved to 1-1-1 overall, while Quinnipiac fell to 0-3 overall.
Providence College returns to action on Friday, September 6 against Hofstra at the Quinnipiac Classic at 4:30 p.m.
