COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Providence College Friars defeated Ohio State, 4-2, in women's hockey action on Saturday, November 16 at Columbus, Ohio. Friar sophomore Rush Zimmerman (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) and senior Jenn Butsch (Berlin, Vt.) each tallied two goals to lead the Friars.
Ohio State's Jennifer Desson scored the only goal of the first period on a power play at 10:53. However, the Friars came on strong in the second period to outscore the Buckeyes, 3-0, in the middle period. Butsch scored the first of her two goals in the game at 10:25 and Zimmerman added two goals at 12:26 and 16:50.
The Buckeyes got within one goal when Desson scored her second power-play tally of the contest at 18:13 of the third period. The Friars sealed the win when Butsch added an empty net goal with 1:04 remaining in the game.
PC freshman netminder Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) made 21 stops and improved to 5-2-1 for the season.
With the win, Providence raised its record to 5-3 overall , while Ohio State fell to 2-8-1.
Providence College will return to action at Findlay (Ohio) on November 17 at 1:00 p.m.
