JAMAICA, N.Y. - Cornell connected on its first three penalty kicks and Big Red goalkeeper Kristin Lotito saved the last shot from Providence as third-seeded Cornell topped the Friars, 2-1, in the second semifinal game of the ECAC Tournament at Belson Stadium on the campus of St. John's University Saturday afternoon.

The win moves the Big Red (9-5-0) into the ECAC Championship game, where they will face host St. John's (10-6-4), a 2-0 winner over Niagara, on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Cornell had taken a 1-0 lead early in the second half, but Providence (8-9-2) scored with less than five minutes left to send the game into overtime. After a pair of 10 minute overtime periods, when both teams had scoring chances, the game moved on to penalty kicks.

After a coin flip, Cornell went first in the penalty kick session and Sarah Olsen's shot beat Providence goalkeeper Caroline Haines to the lower right. Providence forward Kerry O'Malley sent her shot wide right and Big Red midfielder Ali Gombar gave Cornell a 2-0 lead when her shot beat Haines to the top right. PC midfielder BriAnne Bruni then missed wide left and Cailin Rice sent a blast past Haines to the lower left, with what would prove to be the decisive goal. Providence midfielder Maura Robertson had her shot saved by Big Red keeper Kristin Lotito, giving Cornell the 2-1 win.

Providence had tied the game in with 4:17 left in regulation when Maura Robertson sent a free kick from about 40 yards into the box, where Lauren Ritchie headed it from eight yards out, beating Lotito to the upper near post and tying the game.

Cornell had controlled play through the latter part of the first half and both teams countered back and forth in the early goings of the second. The Big Red were able to capitalize in the 70th minute, when midfielder Ali Gombar sent a free kick from about 20 yards out to the box, where forward Emily Knight's volley went through traffic and beat Haines to the lower near post at the 69:52 mark, giving Cornell a 1-0 lead.

Cornell outshot Providence, 20-17, while Providence had seven corner kicks to the Big Red's four.
