Providence College Friars (4-3-1): The No. 8 Providence College women's ice hockey team will look to extend its winning ways as they travel to the state of Ohio for two games this weekend against Ohio State and Findlay. The Friars were last in action this past weekend for two games at Maine. Providence defeated the Black Bears, 3-0, on Saturday, November 9 and, 5-0, on Sunday, November 10. Friar freshman goalie Jana Bugden was named Women's HOCKEY EAST Co-Rookie of the Week on November 12 for her performance. She stopped a total of 39 shots in the two shutouts and improved her record to 4-2-1 on the season. The Friar offense has been led by senior forwards Jenn Butsch (Berlin, Vt.) and Danielle Culgin (Framingham, Mass.). They lead the team in points with 11 and eight, respectively. Butsch has a team-high seven assists and Culgin, along with junior forward Darlene Stephenson (Virden, Manitoba), have five goals to lead the Friars. The Friars trail 0-1-0 in the series against Ohio State and hold a 4-0-0 all-time record against Findlay. If the Friars are able to post a shutout versus Ohio State, it would mark the first time a Providence women's ice hockey team has not given up a goal in three consecutive road games since the 1985-86 season.
Ohio State University Buckeyes (2-7-1): The Buckeyes host the Friars without a victory in their last eight games. Last weekend, Ohio State was defeated twice by top-ranked Minnesota-Duluth (5-0, 3-0). The Buckeyes are led offensively by sophomore forward Jeni Creary (Shell Lake, Saskatchewan). She has compiled a team-leading 12 points on a team-high five goals and seven assists. Her assist total is tied for the team-lead with junior defenseman Emma Laaksonen (Espoo, Finland). The Buckeyes have used two goalies this season with senior April Stojak (Kent, Ohio) and freshman Natalie Lamm? (Hibbing, Minn.) each starting in five games. Lamm? has made 127 saves and has a save percentage of .888, while Stojak has stopped 106 shots and has a save percentage of .906. Ohio State is coached by Providence alumnus and former Head Coach Jackie Barto. Barto was coached the Friars from 1994-1998 and compiled a 70-53-10 record during her tenure. Her Buckeye's defeated the Friars last season in Providence, 4-3.
University of Findlay Oilers (2-7-1): The Oilers host the Friars as they look to rebound from three consecutive losses. Those three losses were to Princeton (2-0) and twice to Mercyhurst (7-1, 3-0). The Findlay offense has been led thus far by senior forward Melissa Oliver (Hickson, Ontario). She has a team-high nine assists, along with one goal for a team-leading 10 points. The leading goal-scorer for the Oilers is sophomore forward Heidi Tallqvist (Turku, Finland). She has a team-leading six goals, along with two assists, for eight total points. Starting seven games in goal has been senior Erin Blair (Lisle, Ill.). She has compiled a 2-5-0 record, while giving up an average of 4.71 goals per game. Adam Brinker is in his second year as Findlay's women's ice hockey coach and led the Oilers to the first ever Great Lakes Women's Hockey Association Championship last season.
