Women's Soccer Earns Second Seed In ECAC Championship

The Providence College women's soccer team will travel to St. John's University in Jamaica, N.Y. this weekend Saturday, November 16 and Sunday, November 17 to compete in the ECAC Division 1 Women's Soccer Championship.

The Friars who finished the regular season with an 8-8-2 record will be the second seed in the tournament and will face the third seed Cornell University Big Red (8-5-2) in the first round of play. The Friars were led this year in scoring by sophomore Maura Robertson (Wellesley, Mass.) with five goals and seven assists for 17 points and freshman Kerry O'Malley (Longmeadow, Mass.) with four goals and five assists for 13 points. Providence has appeared in the ECAC Championships once before. In 1989 the Friars faced the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights and were defeated, 2-1, in the semifinals.

The game on Saturday will start at 2:00 p.m. after the first seed St. John's University Red Storm (9-6-4) squares off with the fourth seed Niagara University Purple Eagles (12-5-1) at 11:00 a.m. The winners of the first round matches will advance to the ECAC Championship game on Sunday, November 17 at 1:00 p.m.
