PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's soccer team defeated the University of New Hampshire, 2-1, on Sunday, October 6 in Providence, R.I.
The Wildcats got on the board quickly in the 11th minute when freshman forward Jackie Wishoski (Malden, Mass.) took a through pass from junior forward Ana Tobon (Philadelphia, Pa.) to beat Friar goalie Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) with a high shot, making the score 1-0. New Hampshire kept constant pressure in the Providence zone throughout the first half. The Friars were able to alleviate the pressure when sophomore midfielder Maura Robertson (Wellesley, Mass.) broke away and scored, unassisted, on senior Wildcat goalkeeper Kristen Ouelette (Weatogue, Conn.) with a shot that landed in the lower left corner of the goal to tie the game, 1-1. The score remained tied until 7:24 left in the game when freshman forward Kerry O'Malley (Longmeadow, Mass) led Robertson with a pass to the left of the goalie box which Robertson put into the lower right corner of the goal, past sophomore goalie Elizabeth MacKay (Scituate, Mass.). The O'Malley assist was her fourth of the year and the two goals by Robertson rose her season total to five. O'Malley now has eight points on the year, while Robertson has 15.
In goal, Providence's Haines made four saves, as New Hampshire's Ouelette stopped one shot. MacKay relieved Oulette in the second half and stopped two shots.
