The Providence College women's soccer team was defeated on Wednesday, October 23, 1-0, at Providence, R.I. by No. 10 Connecticut. The Friars played the Huskies extremely close in the first-half. Both teams had chances but were unable to score. In the 48th minute Connecticut's Jennifer Sullivan ripped a shot from just inside the box that was headed for the bottom left corner of the net until junior goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) made a diving save to keep the game scoreless. Finally, in the 82nd minute Connecticut's Brittany Barakat scored what proved to be the game-winner, on a corner kick that she bent into the top left corner of the net. The Friars were outshot, 19-8, and Haines made five saves. With the loss, the Friars fall to 7-7-2 overall and 1-5-0 in the BIG EAST, while the Huskies improved to 13-2-1 overall and 5-0-0 in the BIG EAST. Providence returns to action at home on Sunday, October 27 at 2:00 p.m. versus Yale at Glay Field.
