PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team earned a 2-0 non-conference win over Sacred Heart University on Sunday, September 9 in Providence, R.I.
Junior Jennifer Chin (Norwood, Mass.) connected on her first goal of the season at the 20:55 mark of the first half to give the Friars a 1-0 lead. Freshman Amy Phillips (Worcester, Mass.) followed with her first goal of the season off of a corner with 3:54 remaining in the first half. Junior Courtney Dow (Hampstead, N.H.) and sophomore Stefanie Suehnholz (Flemington, N.J.) were credited with the double assist.
Both teams were held scoreless after the intermission, as Providence earned its second shut-out victory of the season. Friar goalkeeper Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) faced seven Pioneer shot attempts, but did not have to make a save. She was credited with her second shutout of the year, and second of her career. Sacred Heart goalkeeper Robyn Breer faced 22 shots and made 11 saves in the loss.
Providence improves to 3-1 overall on the season, as Sacred Heart falls to 1-3. The Friars' next game is at Harvard (Cambridge, Mass.) on Wednesday, September 12. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
