Sacred Heart University (1-2): Sacred Heart University has a record of 1-2 this season. The Pioneers will play the University of Albany on Saturday, September 8 at 12 noon before travelling to Providence to take on the Friars at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Sacred Heart dropped its first two games of the season before picking up a 3-2 victory against Quinnipiac on Wednesday, September 5. The Pioneer goals were scored by freshman Allison Enderly, sophomore Julie Messenger and junior Laura Athans.
Providence College (2-1): The Providence College field hockey team is coming off a 1-0 home-opening win against the University of Rhode Island Rams (Wednesday, Sept. 5). Junior Courtney Dow (Hampstead, N.H.) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season with 4:54 remaining in the game to lift the Friars to victory. The goal was assisted by sophomore Stefanie Suehnholz (Flemington, N.J.). Providence currently has a 2-1 record and is off to its best start since 1997 when the team began the year at 8-0. Dow leads the team in scoring with nine points on four goals and one assist. Two of her four goals have been game winners. Sophomore Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) has started all three games for the Friars in goal. She has a total of 16 saves on the season and has allowed six goals. Moran posted the first shutout of her career against Rhode Island on Wednesday, September 5. Eight Friars have already scored at least one point this season through three games. Last year, 11 Friars made their mark in the scoring column in a total of 22 games.
