EAST BRUSWICK, N.J. - Junior Jennifer Chin scored the game-winning goal to beat Rutgers 2-1 in overtime on Saturday, September 29. Chin's goal came with 4:29 remaining in the first overtime session to secure the 2-1 win.
Providence got on the scoreboard in the first half at the 21:48 mark to earn a 1-0 lead. Freshman Amy Phillips was all alone in front of the Scarlet Knights keeper, as senior Katie Willett found her downfield on a PC free hit. Phillips took the Rutgers goalkeeper one-on-one to score the goal.
Rutgers tied the score at 1-1 as Erica Hartwig tallied a goal with 11:26 remaining in regulation, to force the eventual overtime period. Rutgers outshot Providence 17-8 and held the advantage on penalty corners, 16-4.
Sophomore goalkeeper Meaghan Moran registered seven saves for Providence, and earned her seventh win in nine games. Stacey Gaenzle took in one save for Rutgers.
Providence improves to 7-2 overall and 1-1 in the BIG EAST. Rutgers falls to 2-6 overll and 0-3 in BIG EAST action.
