Field Hockey Earns 4-1 In Season Opener

STORRS, Conn. - The Providence College field hockey team started the 2001 season on a good note with a 4-1 win over Albany at the Husky Invitational in Storrs, Conn on Saturday, September 1.

Sophomore Stefanie Suehnholz (Flemington, N.J.) started the scoring for the Friars in the first half on an unassisted goal. Junior midfielder Courtney Dow (Hampstead, N.H.) scored the Friars second and third goals of the game. Her first goal gave Providence a 2-1 lead going into halftime, and was assisted by Maggie Hoffman (Southbury, Conn.) and freshman Amy Phillips (Worcester, Mass.). Dow's second goal extended the Friars lead to 3-1 in the early stages of the second half on an assist from Jennifer Chin (Norwood, Mass.). Freshman Melissa Kroslak (Hopkinton, Mass.) added an insurance goal unassisted to finalize the score at 4-1.

Goalkeeper Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) made one save in goal to earn the victory.

The Friars will take on St. Joseph's on Sunday, September 2 at 2 p.m. in the second game of the Husky Invitational. PC will return home on Wednesday, September 5 against the University of Rhode Island. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. on Hendricken Field.
