Romuald Augustin Named To Canada's Goodwill Games Roster

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced on Wednesday, August 29 that Providence College junior forward Romuald Augustin (Montreal, Quebec) was one of 12 players named to the Canadian Team that will compete at the Goodwill Games in Brisbane, Australia beginning on September 3.

Also this summer, Augustin played for the Canadian student men's team that posted a 4-2 mark in six exhibition games in Mexico on July 25-August 1. Currently, he is playing for the Canadian Team at the World University Games in Beijing, China. Augustin has been one of the Canada's top performers at the World University Games. He is averaging 21.4 points per game and scored a team-high 34 points in a 79-73 loss to China on August 27. The team will play Brazil on Thursday, August 30 and can finish no higher than fifth.

Augustin, one of the Friars' top forwards, had a strong season in 2000-01 for Providence College. The 6-foot-7-inch, 205-pound forward averaged 9.2 points and 2.7 rebounds, while starting 29 of the team's 31 games last season. Augustin was impressive from behind the three-point arc, connecting on 45-112 attempts (40.2 percent) for the Friars.

Augustin will become the first Friar basketball player ever to compete in the Goodwill Games.
