NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Providence College men's golf team placed 19th of 21 schools at the Yale Men's Spring Open at the Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Conn. on April 7-8.
Providence shot a two-day, two-round total of 667 (341-326). The Friars were 64 strokes behind Army, which won the Open with a score of 603 (300-303) on the 6,749 yard, par-70 course.
The Friars were led by junior Chris Tobey (Hopkinton, Mass.) who finished tied for 30th place with a 81-75--156. PC's other golfers were senior Jed Mahoney of Narragansett, R.I. (tied 69th, 80-84--164), junior Steve O'Brien of Cranston, R.I. (tied 90th, 87-82--169), sophomore Ryan Shaw of East Longmeadow, Mass. (tied 101st, 93-85--178) and junior Mike Grande of Orange, Conn. (tied 101st, 93-85--178).
Dartmouth's Lee Birchall won the individual title with a score of 140 (70-70).
The Friars will return to action on Tuesday, April 10 at the Big Five Championship at Willamantic Country Club in Willamantic, Conn.
