WILLAMANTIC, Conn. -- The Providence College men's golf team finished fifth at the Big 5 Championship at Willamantic Country Club in Willamantic, Conn. on April 10. Providence shot a one-day, one-round total of 308. The Big 5 Championship was won by Rhode Island with a score of 282 on the 6,271 yard, par-71 course.
The Friars were led by junior Chris Tobey of Hopkinton, Mass. who finished tied for third place with a 70. PC's other golfers were junior Steve O'Brien of Cranston, R.I. (tied 17th, 78), sophomore Ryan Shaw of East Longmeadow, Mass. (19th, 79), senior Jed Mahoney of Narragansett, R.I. (tied 22nd, 81) and sophomore Brian Green of Marblehead, Mass. (25th, 89).
URI's Michael Sims won the individual title with a score of 67.
The Friars will return to action on Monday, April 23-25 at the New England Championship at Cocheco Country Club in Dover, N.H.
