Carl Labranche Earns 400th Career Coaching Victory

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- On Sunday, February 4, 2001, the Providence College Men's Tennis team defeated Central Connecticut State University, 7-0. The win marked the 400th career victory for PC's tennis coach Carl Labranche of Cumberland, R.I. Labranche has coached both the men's and women's tennis teams at PC for the past 14 seasons and has compiled a career record of 400-200. His men's teams have posted a record of 222-92, while the women's squad have recorded a 178-108 mark.
LaBranche has guided the men's and women's teams to a combined nine New England titles. The men have captured four new England titles, while the women won their fifth title in 1998. For four consecutive years the men's team finished second at the BIG EAST Championships (1990-93), while the women have been among the top three twice. In 1998, the men's team finished third at the BIG EAST Championship for the third straight year behind national powers Notre Dame and Miami.
A member of the USTA, LaBranche also referees collegiate and high school basketball games. He and his wife Joane, reside in Cumberland with their two children, Nicole (21) and Kyle (18).
