Women's Basketball Defeated By Montana, 60-59

MISSOULA, Mont. -- The University of Montana defeated the Providence College Friars, 60-59, on Friday, December 27 in the opening round of the 22nd annual Lady Griz Holiday Basketball Classic in Missoula, Montana.
Despite shooting 35.7 percent in the first 20 minutes of action, the Friars held a 29-24 lead over Montana, which also struggled from the floor in the first half, hitting just nine of 32 shots (28.1 percent).
In the second half, Montana improved its offense and outscored the Friars, 36-30, to earn the 60-59 win.
The Friars were led in the game by graduate student Dani Trippany (Massena, N.Y.), who had a team-high 14 points andnine rebounds. Senior Catrina Hawley-Stewart (West Haven, Conn.) added 12 points and nine rebounds in the loss.
Providence (6-5) will return to action on Saturday, December 29 in the consolation game of the Lady Griz Classic at 8:00 p.m. EST.
