PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Abdul Mills had a game-high 21 points and Marcus Douthit added 17 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocked shots Wednesday night to help Providence rally from a 21-point first-half deficit for a 85-76 win over Sacred Heart.
The Friars (6-4) were also sparked by John Linehan who contributed 11 points and eight steals.
Maurice Bailey had 20 points for the Pioneers (3-5).
The Friars, who trailed most of the game, went ahead for good 67-65 on a baseline jumper by Ryan Gomes with 4:22 to play.
It was still a 5-point game with less than a minute to go, but the Friars hit 10 consecutive free throws to keep the Pioneers at bay.
Sacred Heart went ahead 38-17 in the first half paced by Chris Assel's 11 points, including three straight 3-pointers in the first 12 minutes.
Providence hit only 2 of 13 3-pointers, 6 of 24 overall, in that stretch.
Providence closed the margin to 46-40 at halftime, helped by Gomes' eight points off the bench.
Mills and Douthit combined for 10 points to get the Friars with 53-50 in the first four minutes of the second half. Bailey scored the next eight points for Sacred Heart, until Providence rallied.
