Women's Basketball Earns, 81-70, Victory Over Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Providence College women's basketball team won it's second-straight game, as it defeated Marist College, 81-70, on November 24 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
Providence was led offensively by graduate student Dani Trippany (Massena, N.Y.) and senior Chrissy Vozab (Amenia, N.Y.), who each scored 17 points. Sophomore Jenese Wilcox (Port Chester, N.Y.) and freshman Jessica Simmonds (South Orange, N.J.) scored 10 points each to round out the double-digit scorers for the Friars. Junior Brooke Freeburg (Waterford, Pa.) pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, and added six points.
Marist started the game on a 6-0 run, before Providence got on the board at the 15:38 mark of the first half, with a free-throw by freshman Keisha Blackwell (Baltimore, Md.). The Red Foxes led by as many as nine points in the game, but Providence took the lead, 28-27, with 1:36 remaining in the first half, on a 12-foot jumpshot by Simmonds, and never trailed again. Providence led, 34-30, at halftime.
Marist was led by Marie Fusci, who scored a game-high 22 points. Fusci hit eight-of-18 field goal attempts from the floor, including six-of-11 from three-point range. Diesa Seidel scored 12 points for the Red Foxes.
Providence improves to 3-1 overall, while Marist falls to 1-2 on the season. The Friars will return home to Alumni Hall to take on the University of Rhode Island on Tuesday, November 27 at 7:00 p.m., in Providence, R.I.
