2001-02 Men's Basketball Schedule Released

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars will open their 2001-02 regular season basketball schedule on Friday, November 16 against MAAC foe Siena at the Dunkin Donuts Center - Providence. It will be the team's first game of the Las Vegas Tourney. The Friars also will play three games in Las Vegas, Nev. as part of the tournament on November 19-21. The Friars will play 16 BIG EAST Conference games and 14 non-conference contests in 2001-02.

Five of the Friars' games will appear on national television this season. PC's first game on national television will be a non-conference game at Texas on January 7 on ESPN. The Friars also will play on ESPN on February 2 at home against Boston College. Providence will have two games on ESPN2 (at Connecticut on February 5 and at home against Miami on February 26) and one game on CBS (at Notre Dame on March 2).

In addition to Siena, the Friars' home non-league schedule features Columbia, Brown, George Washington, Sacred Heart, Boston University, Morgan State and Central Connecticut. In PC's other non-conference game on the road, the Friars will play Rhode Island at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. At the Las Vegas Tourney, the Friars will play Siena to open the tournament and will play Oklahoma State on November 19 and Austin Peay on November 20. On November 21, the final day of the tournament, PC could play Arkansas-Monticello, Northwestern State, Texas Christian or UTEP.

Entering the second season of BIG EAST divisional play, the league is again split into two seven-team divisions (East and West). The Friars will meet each East Division opponent on a home-and-home basis and play four games against squads from the West Division.

The Friars will begin their BIG EAST Conference action on January 2 at East Division rival Villanova. Providence will play its first league home game on January 5 against cross-divisional foe Syracuse. The Friars' other cross-division home game will be against Rutgers on January 22. PC's BIG EAST East Division home games are against St. John's (January 12), Connecticut (January 16), Boston College (February 2), Virginia Tech (February 9), Villanova (February 19) and Miami (February 26).

In other East Division conference action on the road, the Friars will travel to Miami (January 19), St. John's (January 26), Connecticut (February 5), Boston College (February 13) and Virginia Tech (February 23). In their cross-divisional road games, Providence will play at West Virginia (January 30) and will conclude the regular season at Notre Dame (March 2).

In addition to the regular-season schedule, the Friars will have two home preseason games at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Providence will host the One World All-Stars on November 3 and USDBL on November 10. Tickets for all home games can be purchased Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the PC Ticket Office in Alumni Hall or by calling (401) 865-GO PC.
