Virginia Tech Hokies (6-4-2, 0-1-0 BIG EAST) - The Virginia Tech Hokies have won three straight games, including a 3-2 win over Radford on Wednesday, October 10. Senior forward Joy Nsubuga scored with three minutes left in the game to propel the Hokies. Senior forward Wendy Kotwas tied the game in the 78th minute on a penalty kick. The Virgina Tech women's soccer program is playing in its first season in the BIG EAST Conference Northeast Division. The Hokies were defeated, 2-0, by Connecticut in their first conference game. Senior forwards Kim Wyckoff and Nsubuga lead the team in scoring with seven points each.
Georgetown University Hoyas (7-4-0, 1-3-0 BIG EAST) - The Hoyas are coming off a 3-2 overtime win over American University. The Hoyas led, 2-0, but American bounced back to equalize the game at 2-2 in the 64th minute. The Hoyas won the game in the 118th minute on an own goal. Sophomore midfielder Jessie Beers-Altman and sophomore forward Courtney Shaub scored for the Hoyas. Georgetown will play Boston College on Friday, October 12, before traveling south to face Providence on Sunday, October 14 at 1:00 p.m. Junior forward Karin Ostrander leads the team in scoring with two goals and six assists. GU is 3-2-0 all-time against the Friars. The Hoyas have won the last three games against the Friars, with the most recent victory coming during the 1999 season.
Providence College Friars (4-5-1, 0-4-1 BIG EAST) - Providence College looks to a end a four-game losing slide this weekend as they host Virginia Tech on Friday, October 12. The Friars also host Georgetown on Sunday, October 14. PC is coming off a 1-0 loss against No. 24 Miami on Sunday, October 7. The loss was the fourth-straight BIG EAST Conference setback for the Friars. Three of the four losses have been by one goal, including a 2-1 overtime loss at No. 9 Connecticut. The game against the Hokies will be the final BIG EAST Northeast Division contest for the Friars this season. It also marks the first ever meeting between the Friars and the Hokies. The Friars are 2-3-0 all-time against Georgetown. PC's last win over the Hoyas came during the 1996 season. Freshman midfielder Maura Robertson leads the team in scoring with two goals and four assists (eight points) while senior forward Caitlyn Welsh has three goals and one assist (seven points). Sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) leads the BIG EAST Conference in saves with 70.
